Test a police vetting demand against the national guidance

Forces are writing to council CCTV services requiring NPPV Level 2 Full for operators who use an Airwave terminal. This toolkit takes you through the CCTV User Group's Airwave Vetting Protocol, tests the demand against the five questions the Protocol asks and produces a reply that asks the force for the classification, the assessment and the reasoning. It takes about fifteen minutes and nothing is stored until you choose to send it.

How it works

    A council running its own control room, or a contractor running one under contract.

    Gather the evidence

    A short version of the Annex B checklist. Every question accepts do not know.

    Describe your control centre

    Optional. It helps the User Group build a national picture and it never affects your result.

    Record the force's position

    Which force, what it has asked for, what it says the basis is.

  5. Step 5

    Read the five tests

    Each one is answered against your facts, with a sentence of reasoning.

  6. Step 6

    Take your outputs away

    A tailored letter, a position summary, the checklist and an emailed copy if you want one.

Who this is for

Local authorities running their own public space CCTV control rooms, and the private companies that run council control rooms under contract. Alarm receiving centres, monitoring centres, engineers and suppliers are not covered in this first release. They are coming, and the User Group would still like to hear from you in the meantime.

The national register of force positions

Every assessment can contribute an anonymised entry showing what a force has asked for and on what basis. The User Group reviews each entry before it is published, and a force with fewer than two reports shows no numbers at all, so no single organisation can be identified.
